Mission Control not working on Mac? Check these in order
First test Control–Up Arrow. If that opens Mission Control, the feature works and the problem is your key or gesture. If it does not, check the Mission Control shortcuts, remove conflicts and restart before changing deeper settings.
Find out which input is failing
Try Control–Up Arrow, the Mission Control key and a three- or four-finger swipe separately. One working method narrows the problem immediately. A failed trackpad gesture does not mean Mission Control itself is broken.
If an Apple function key changes brightness or does nothing, test it with Fn held down. The Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys setting changes whether the top row performs system actions directly.
Restore the keyboard shortcut
Open System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Mission Control. Make sure Mission Control is enabled and has a key combination. If another app uses the same combination, replace one of them and test again.
Remote-desktop tools, window managers and keyboard utilities can intercept shortcuts. Quit them temporarily rather than changing several settings at once. Reopen one app at a time once the shortcut works.
Restore trackpad or mouse gestures
Open System Settings → Trackpad → More Gestures and enable Mission Control. Confirm the selected finger count, then test a deliberate upward swipe. For Magic Mouse, open Mouse settings and check the Mission Control gesture.
Clean the input surface and test without accessibility or gesture-remapping software running. If other multi-finger gestures also fail, the problem is probably broader than Mission Control.
When the overview opens but looks wrong
If windows appear on another desktop, check the Spaces bar at the top and switch through it. Apps can be assigned to a particular desktop, and macOS can switch to the Space that already contains an app’s windows.
If Spaces move around unexpectedly, turn off Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use under System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Mission Control. Restart the Mac after testing the settings above; if the issue continues in multiple user accounts, use Apple Support rather than deleting system files.
